What a Website Actually Costs in Nigeria in 2026

Real numbers, what drives them, and the three questions that move a quote by a factor of five. Written because almost nobody publishes this.

Ask five agencies in Abuja what a website costs and you will get five refusals to answer until you book a call. That is a sales tactic, not a pricing model. Here is what the work actually costs, and why.

The short version

What you are buying Realistic range (₦) Realistic range (£)
One-page site, template-based 250,000, 600,000 400, 950
Marketing site, 5-8 pages, custom design 1.2m, 3.5m 1,900, 5,500
Site plus CMS your team actually runs 2.5m, 6m 4,000, 9,500
Web application with accounts and payments 8m, 40m+ 12,000, 60,000+

Those are honest mid-market numbers for 2026. You can pay less. You will usually pay for it twice.

The three questions that move the number

1. Who writes the words?

Copy is the single most underestimated line item on every project. A five-page site needs roughly 2,500 words that have to be decided, not just typed, what you claim, in what order, with what proof.

If you supply finished copy, you save real money. If you supply a logo and a vague sense of "make it professional", someone bills you to make those decisions, and it is usually the most expensive person in the room.

2. Does it need to do anything, or does it need to say something?

A site that says something is a design and content problem. A site that does something, accounts, payments, dashboards, uploads, is a software problem, and software problems carry testing, security, and a support burden that never ends.

The jump from "brochure" to "application" is where budgets multiply. Be honest about which one you are commissioning, because a brochure quote for an application is the most common way projects die.

3. What happens after launch?

Most quotes end at launch. Most costs do not. Hosting, a domain, SSL, backups, dependency updates, the small changes you will want in month two, none of it is free, and an agency that never mentions it is either hiding it or has not thought about it.

Budget 15-25% of build cost per year for a site that stays healthy. A site nobody maintains is a security incident with a countdown on it.

Why cheap sites cost more

The 150,000-naira site is real and you can buy one today. What you typically get:, A page builder your developer knows and you do not, Assets that were never optimised, so it loads in eight seconds on Nigerian mobile data, No analytics, so you cannot tell whether it works, No structured data, so Google struggles to understand what you do, A developer who stops answering in month three

The rebuild then costs full price, plus whatever the year of poor performance cost you in customers you never heard from.

What you should ask for in writing

Before you sign anything, ask for these. An agency that will not put them in writing is telling you something.

  1. Who owns the code and the accounts. You should. Not the agency, not "the developer".
  2. Page load target on 3G. Under three seconds is achievable. Ask them to commit.
  3. What happens if you leave. Can the next team pick it up, or is it locked in a proprietary builder?
  4. The maintenance number. Annual, in writing, before launch.

How we price

We publish scopes and prices on our packages page because we would rather lose a badly-matched project early than argue about scope in month two. If your budget is below the range, we will say so on the first call rather than sell you a version of the work that cannot succeed.

That is not generosity. Projects that are underfunded at the start fail loudly, and we live off the ones that do not.
